Cherries "closest to win" in "high-level" draw with Manchester United - Iraola

Bournemouth drew 2-2 with their visitors under the lights, twice coming from behind to earn a point and extend their unbeaten run to 11 games, equalling their club record in the Premier League.

But the Cherries were up against ten players after Harry Maguire’s red card for the final 12 minutes plus stoppage time, and they were pushing for a winner late on.

And Iraola admitted that they weren’t completely pleased with the point and felt they could have won the game.

“Probably we are not fully pleased,” he said.

“I think we wanted the three points. I think because also they finished with 10, we were the closest team to winning it at the end. But overall, I think the performance has been good.

“The game has been, I think, quite a high-level game, quite entertaining. I think we've controlled the game in a lot of phases, but I always was feeling that they are very dangerous.

“Every time they recover the ball, the transitions, you can feel the danger. I value the point. Probably looking at the big picture doesn't give us a lot because we are coming from five draws.

“In some of those games, clearly we should have gotten more.

“But also you have to be humble enough to recognise we are playing a big team, a team that is in a great run of results, and one point against them is not the worst.”

The Cherries showed their mentality after they trailed twice on the night, after they had come from behind three times in the 4-4 draw at Old Trafford in December.

Asked about his side’s ability to come from behind against the Red Devils, Iraola said: “Not just against United, I think we've come from behind a lot of times, the same way we've also lost points from winning positions.

“It's the way we play. At the end, the first goal in our games is not as decisive as it is in other games, as a good thing and a bad thing.

“But I think it's clear that this team has character and believes in what they are doing, and the reward is not big.

“The one point doesn't change a lot our situation, especially considering it's the fifth in a row.

“But you have to continue pushing and obviously we wanted [more], sometimes these things have to go your way, the crossbar of Alex Scott, the first big chance from Rayan, some moments where I think a goal would have helped us a lot.

“But overall, quite happy because I've seen identity in our performance. I've seen things that I like to see in my team.”
