David Moyes heaped praise on Everton match winner Beto after the striker’s brace sealed an emphatic win over Chelsea.
The Blues boss was visibly delighted for his striker, who scored in each half to send his team on the way to a 3-0 win that moved the home side within just three points of the top five.
The goals were a highpoint in a challenging season for the Guinea-Bissau international, who has struggled to replicate the form that saw him lift Everton from the relegation battle 12 months ago.
The 28-year-old, heavily linked with a move away from Everton in January, scored at key points in both halves to end this match as a contest.
His opener was delivered with a delicate chip over the onrushing Robert Sanchez as he met a James Garner through ball described as “exquisite” by Moyes.
The second came as his snapshot was spilt by Sanchez, giving Beto a sixth Premier League goal of a season that could still hold promise for both him and Everton.
On his display, Moyes said: “I think his all-round game tonight was much better. His link-up play was better. And he gets two goals tonight in a big game. It says a lot. I keep saying that.
“I've said it in every interview… He's a great boy to work with. He's incredibly humble. He tries to improve himself every day.
“And sometimes when you work like that, you get good fortune and good luck. I'm not saying it was good luck, but we certainly got what he deserved from the work he puts in.”
Moyes also had praise for others, stating Garner was “head and shoulders” the best player on the pitch, arguing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was unfortunate to miss out on the England squad and praising Jordan Pickford for two “wonderful” saves from Enzo Fernandez.
On the England number one, who was caught under Max Dowman’s cross for the late Arsenal winner last week, he added: “He probably just missed out on something last week a little bit. Today, he made up for it, definitely. He's an excellent goalkeeper.”
