Manchester United have held meetings with the agents of Bruno Guimaraes ahead of a potential summer transfer move, according to Fabrizio Romano.
United have cast a wide net ahead of the summer transfer window when it comes to signing a midfielder to replace Casemiro, who is departing Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.
GIVEMESPORT understands United could move to sign two players in the midfield area, rather than just one, with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Guimaraes' Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali high on the shortlist of transfer targets this summer.

United will sign at least one midfielder when the summer transfer window opens, but it just remains to be seen which name they go for.
Guimaraes has emerged as a potential candidate, given Newcastle's struggles in the league this season. Dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona in midweek, it looks increasingly unlikely that the Magpies will play European football next year as they sit 11th in the Premier League table with eight games to go.
Guimaraes may love the club, but the 28-year-old may assess his options after the season finishes in order to play on the highest stage.
And transfer expert Romano has confirmed reports in Brazil that Guimaraes' agents held talks with United over a summer move recently.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: "What I can confirm is, yes a meeting took place in recent weeks between the agents of Bruno Guimaraes and Manchester United. That's true, a meeting took place and Manchester United maintain a very good relationship with the agency Bruno is represented by.
"It's normal to have meetings with top agents for top clubs, but to go from that to meeting and arranging over personal terms, meeting to go and sign a player, there's still a long way to go.
"Bruno Guimaraes is appreciated by Manchester United, yes, but so are other players. There are many, many things to qualify before Manchester United say 'this is the midfielder we want to get'.
"Meeting, yes, interest, yes, but for Newcastle he's a crucial player and they will not make life easy for interested clubs."

Guimaraes is under contract at St James' Park until the summer of 2028, giving Newcastle plenty of rope when it comes to negotiations with the Brazilian and any interested parties in signing him.
There have been suggestions that Guimaraes could cost United significantly less than some of their other targets this summer, with £69million being mooted as a potential price tag for the Brazilian midfielder who has been put forward by Casemiro himself as his replacement at Old Trafford.
