Manchester United's sell-on clause could scupper a potential summer transfer for Mason Greenwood. The 24-year-old left United to sign for Marseille in a £26.6million permanent deal in July 2024. He had spent the previous season on loan at La Liga side Getafe, where he scored 10 times and added six assists in 36 matches.
But as part of Greenwood's move to Marseille, United inserted a 40 to 50 per cent sell-on clause in his contract. It would give the Reds a significant chunk of the sale should he quit the Ligue 1 outfit in the summer.
The Bradford-born forward has been a revelation since he joined Marseille, scoring 47 goals and providing 14 assists in 74 matches across all competitions. This season, Greenwood is the leading goalscorer in the French top flight, having found the net 15 times – one more than Rennes' Esteban Lepaul and Strasbourg's Joaquin Panichelli.
However, Greenwood is keen to leave Marseille and is hoping to push through a summer move to Juventus, according to The Sun. The one-capped England international, who is said to be unhappy at Marseille, has his heart set on a switch to Italy because 'he knows he can't return to the Premier League'.
But it's added that Greenwood fears United's sell-on clause could impact the deal as Marseille bosses are expected to demand a higher fee. Should a transfer get done, however, the Reds would benefit from almost half of the cash getting sent to Old Trafford after he left the club on a permanent deal two years ago.
Juve are desperate to rebuild and mount a serious Serie A title challenge next season, having gone five – and most likely six – years without winning a Scudetto. As well as eyeing up a move for Greenwood, they want to sign Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer with his contract expiring in the summer.

The Old Lady's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, meanwhile, were dented as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to mid-table Sassuolo on Saturday. Juve went ahead through Kenan Yildiz's first-half strike before Andrea Pinamonti equalised for the visitors and Manuel Locatelli missed a late penalty.
Greenwood, meanwhile, is next in action for Marseille as they take on Lille in a crucial Ligue 1 clash on Sunday. Habib Beye's side are in pole position to secure a Champions League spot as they sit third with eight games to go.
