Welbeck addresses England talk - and gives intriguing answer over Albion's good run

But he gave an intriguing reply as to how Albion have turned their season around.

Welbeck’s double gave the Seagulls their fourth win in five games – a day after he was left out of the latest England squad.

He has been consistent in his comments about concentrating on his club form and seeing what that brings.

Welbeck, now on a best-ever 12 league goals for the season, told TNT Sports: “I like to focus on the positive side so for my name to be mentioned is nice. It’s a good thing.

“I like to focus on that part of the game. I can only control what I can control.

“I don’t like to waste energy on something I have no bearing on.

“I enjoy my life and I am enjoying my football. The rest of the stuff sorts itself out.”

Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler has put a lot of faith in experience and a settled side in recent weeks and the results have been impressive.

Asked the reasons for the good run, Welbeck said with a smile: “Well there is a lot I could say!

“But I think most importantly is the way we fight for each other on the pitch.

“When we look around in the dressing room, we want to have that feeling where we are a band of brothers and, if anybody gets overtaken, someone is there to step in and help them out.

“We look around and everybody is there.

“We are on the same page and everybody is fighting for the one goal."
