Forget Anderson, Man Utd’s new midfield target shows Ineos have cracked the transfer window code

Manchester United’s summer midfield revamp has hinged on one name so far, which is Elliot Anderson, but their latest midfield target is the actual reason to celebrate.

Due to the impending upheaval of the Man Utd midfield, accelerated by Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s ineffectiveness, the gaping hole has turned into a chasm.

Man Utd fans know that just one midfield signing won’t be enough, especially as Man Utd prepare a return to four competitions next season.

Elliot Anderson is the clear priority, and names like Joao Gomes have been spoken about as potential rotation options, but the newest target hits the perfect sweet spot.

Christos Mouzakitis on Man Utd’s radar after impressing scouts

So far, all the names linked to Man Utd were either Premier League-proven marquee superstars who would cost a fortune, or steady rotation options to plug the gaps in the squad.

Christos Mouzakitis is not a new name in Man Utd’s transfer circles, as the club have been scouting him for a while.

The 19-year-old Greek midfielder has impressed the scouts, and ahead of the summer transfer window, UOL now reports that he’s firmly on their radar.

The report states that Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes is the ‘main objective’ for United, who is thought to be affordable at £60m.

Beyond him, however, United are looking at Mouzakitis as a younger addition to an exciting core of players already at Old Trafford.

It’s a departure from Ineos’ policy of signing first-team-ready players, and it enters the realm of a Leny Yoro-type signing, albeit not as costly.

This is the perfect strategy for United, which proves Ineos have cracked the code for the summer revamp.

Mouzakitis interest gives Man Utd best of both worlds

If and when Mouzakitis signs for United, nobody should mistake him as someone who slots into the defensive midfield spot and takes the league by storm.

That can happen, of course, but to expect that from the offing would be fancy, because players like Ayden Heaven are rare.

What they can expect, however, is someone whose ceiling is very high, who won’t cost as much, and can be eased into the XI with minimum fuss because the team is in a good place.

It has been stressed for a while that United need multiple midfielders, so combining a marquee signing with someone like Mouzakitis gives United the best of both worlds.

The floor of the team rises immediately with someone like Tonali, Wharton, or Anderson, and the ceiling shoots up by acquiring exciting players like Mouzakitis.

The youngsters won’t have to suffer from the “saviour” syndrome because the marquee signings will take the limelight.

It’s much like Benjamin Sesko being allowed to develop and gain confidence while Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo share the goalscoring load and spotlight.

This is the perfect strategy to approach the revamp, where the spending is kept in control, and the floor and the ceiling of the team both rise at the same time.
