The sell-on clause that Manchester United inserted into Mason Greenwood's Marseille contract could derail a potential summer transfer for the forward.
Greenwood, 24, departed United to join Marseille in a £26.6million permanent deal in July 2024, following a season-long loan at La Liga side Getafe, where he netted 10 goals and provided six assists in 36 matches.
However, as part of Greenwood's switch to Marseille, United included a 40 to 50 per cent sell-on clause in his contract. This would entitle the Reds to a substantial portion of the sale should he leave the Ligue 1 club in the summer.

The Bradford-born player has been in sensational form since his move to Marseille, scoring 47 goals and adding 14 assists in 74 matches across all competitions. This season, Greenwood is the top scorer in France's premier league, having scored 15 times – one more than Rennes' Esteban Lepaul and Strasbourg's Joaquin Panichelli.
However, according to The Sun, Greenwood is eager to exit Marseille and is pushing for a summer transfer to Juventus. The England international, reportedly discontented at Marseille, is keen on a move to Italy as 'he knows he can't return to the Premier League'.
Yet it's suggested that Greenwood fears United's sell-on clause could complicate the deal, as Marseille's management are likely to demand a higher fee. If a transfer does go through, however, the Reds stand to gain nearly half of the proceeds, which would be sent to Old Trafford after his permanent departure two years ago.

Juve are eager to rebuild and launch a formidable Serie A title challenge next season, having gone five – and most likely six – years without securing a Scudetto. Alongside their interest in Greenwood, they're also keen to sign Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer as his contract expires in the summer.
The Old Lady's aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League took a hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by mid-table Sassuolo on Saturday. Juve took the lead through Kenan Yildiz's first-half goal before Andrea Pinamonti levelled for the visitors and Manuel Locatelli missed a late penalty.
Greenwood, on the other hand, is set to feature for Marseille in a Ligue 1 encounter against Lille on Sunday. Habib Beye's team are well-placed to secure a Champions League spot as they currently sit third with eight matches to go.
