Talks 'At An Advanced Stage' As Man Utd Close In On Double Deal

Man Utd pair Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire are set to sign new contracts, according to reports.

The ever-reliable journalist David Ornstein has revealed that the Red Devils are “close to an agreement” to extend their stays at Old Trafford.

While nothing has been signed yet, discussions are now “at an advanced stage”, with Mainoo set to pen a deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2031.

The 20-year-old’s current agreement expires at the end of next season, although United did have a 12 month extension clause which they could trigger at any time.

What about Maguire’s contract?

Due to his age, the 33-year-old will only be given a one-year extension, which means he will remain until the end of the 2026/27 season.

There has been a lot of speculation that Maguire would be forced into taking a pay cut, with minority owners INEOS keen on slashing the wage bill.

The centre-back currently takes home £190,000 a week, and there are reports that his salary could be almost halved to approximately £100,000 a week. However, Ornstein does not confirm this in his report.

What about Casemiro’s future at Man Utd?

With Maguire set to stay, some fans will be asking whether that raises the prospect of another key starter remaining in Manchester.

Casemiro‘s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, like Maguire’s, and he is a similar age – he turned 34 last month.

However, the Brazilian international earns considerably more than Maguire – around £350,000 a week, and United do have an option to keep him until 2027 if they so wish.

As things stand, though, Casemiro will become a free agent on July 1st, ending his association with the Red Devils after four years.
