Senne Lammens could be rewarded with golden four-game run for Man Utd form and cement Belgium status

Senne Lammens could be about to receive the ultimate reward for his Man Utd form as the stars seem to be aligning to give him a golden four-game run.

Since joining Man Utd and being looked at as a value-for-money punt, Senne Lammens has exceeded even the wildest expectations.

He has come to Old Trafford and played like he’s in his backyard, such has been his unflappable nature and silent confidence.

Despite all that, however, there is one place he hasn’t quite cemented himself yet, but the stars are aligning to correct that status as well.

Thibaut Courtois injury opens the door for Senne Lammens

Despite Lammens’ brilliant form for Man Utd, there are no calls for his increased involvement with the Belgium team, and rightly so.

In Thibaut Courtois, they have quite literally one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best, who is still at the peak of his powers.

Lammens’ good form has already been rewarded by Belgium as he made his international debut in November last year, keeping a clean sheet in a 7-0 win against Liechtenstein.

Real Madrid have now confirmed that Courtois has picked up an injury that could rule him out for around six weeks, making him unavailable for the upcoming international break.

Belgium play four games in this break – against the USA, Mexico, Croatia, and Tunisia – so from Lammens’ perspective, this is a golden four-game run.

In this golden four-game run, he is bound to play at least one, if not multiple games, and therein lies his opportunity to cement his Belgium status.

Lammens can cement himself as Courtois’ successor

Courtois is the cream of the crop for Belgium, but the goalkeeping ranks beyond him are actually quite thin.

Matz Sels has generally been the first backup to Courtois, but Lammens making his international debut in November, then going from strength to strength for United, could change things.

It’s possible that he’ll be given the first nod in the four friendlies Belgium play, and it will be up to him to not relinquish that place thereafter.

The chances of Lammens starting ahead of Courtois are slim to none, but if he can cement himself as the “first in line” after the Madrid goalkeeper, this four-game run in his absence is as good a chance as any.

Knowing Lammens, he will take the chance with both hands and not look back, because this could be the last World Cup for Courtois.

Impress in these four games, cement yourself as the successor to one of the best in the world, and go from strength to strength for United.

This could end up as a dream season for Lammens if Belgium go all the way in the World Cup as well.
