Newcastle United were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the Premier League at St James’ Park.

Unacceptable. A result that should have consequences, but is unlikely to do so, from within, at least.

This was the day the grace ran dry. The day anything built up in the bank evaporated for the masses.

Despite taking the lead through Anthony Gordon, Newcastle United were deservedly beaten 2-1 by bitter rivals Sunderland, just days after a 7-2 embarrassment in Barcelona. This was the season formerly League One SAFC did the derby double over pitiful Newcastle United.

“I understand the reaction at the end of the game. My first thought as a leader is to front up and absorb it. You can use whatever word you want, I won’t challenge it. The only thing we can do is come back stronger from it.

“Our technical delivery was off today. We missed three midfielders who would have given us control. It left us unbalanced. The game became transitional and we made it too much like they wanted it. We lost control in the second half. They were two poor goals to concede but that’s not a one-off for us. We have defended poorly since the turn of the year.”
