Injury blow: Mathys Tel
Tottenham Hotspurs Football Newsletter
Bruno conducted the post-match press conference for Spurs instead of Igor Tudor following Sunday’s damaging 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest after Tudor had an immediate family bereavement after the game.
Defeat left Spurs in 17th place and one point above the drop zone as Forest leapfrogged them in the Premier League table.
At half-time, many Spurs fans had been surprised by Tudor’s decision to substitute Van de Ven and Djed Spence and Lucas Bergvall and Destiny Udogie on in their place.
Some feared Van de Ven may have suffered an injury that could explain his substitution. It was then clear on 67 minutes that Tel had. He walked off the pitch gingerly and was replaced by Randal Kolo Muani.
Asked about Tel, who had been one of Tottenham’s better players on a disappointing afternoon, Bruno said: “We are still assessing and will see if he can go with the [France] national team.”

Bruno was then asked whether taking off Van de Ven was a tactical tweak or due to an injury to the Dutchman.
“It was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward,” Bruno said. “And yeah, I thought that was like a tactical sub.
Asked whether Spence’s replacement was due to an injury, Bruno replied: “No, everything was tactical.”
