Tudor tactics tweak explained amid Tottenham rallying cry

Igor Tudor’s unexpected half-time double substitution and tactical change has been explained by Tottenham assistant coach Bruno Saltor.

With Spurs trailing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest at half-time in a huge relegation six-pointer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tudor surprised many fans when he brought on Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall in place of Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence.

That led to a shift to a back three, but it did not pay off for the hosts as Forest ran away with the game and won 3-0 after second-half goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi.

The thinking behind the half-time tweak has now been explained by Saltor, who conducted Tottenham’s post-match media duties as interim head coach Tudor was dealing with a family bereavement in the immediate aftermath of the game.

“It was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward,” Bruno said. “And yeah, I thought that was like a tactical sub.”

It was put to Bruno whether he and Igor Tudor’s coaching staff feel they are the right people to turn Tottenham’s fortunes out and save them from relegation.

“Yeah, of course, we feel the support from everyone at the club and we're just focusing on how we can help players,” the assistant coach insisted.

“Obviously, a lot of players are leaving now for the internationals and as soon as they get back, get back on the training pitch, come and try to get everyone up to speed and prepare for the next game.”
