Tottenham were beaten comfortably by Nottingham Forest at home.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League status was thrown further into jeopardy on Sunday, when they were beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at home. Igor Tudor’s side ended the weekend in 17th place in the Premier League with just 30 points, one point above 18th-place West Ham United, who were beaten 2-0 at Aston Villa.
It had been a rare positive week for Tottenham with a hard-fought point against Liverpool at Anfield followed by a morale-boosting 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid to ease the pressure on Igor Tudor. However, they failed to build on that despite starting the game well against Nottingham Forest. Tudor’s men hit the crossbar during a dominant first half, only for Igor Jesus’ 45th-minute header from a corner kick to provide a sucker-punch to the hosts.
Further blows followed after the break, with Nottingham Forest skipper Morgan Gibbs-White finishing off a well-worked move in the 62nd minute before substitute Taiwo Awoniyi icing the cake by tapping home a Nico Williams cross with three minutes left on the clock.
Bruno Saltor reacts to Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest
Forest came up with a plan and executed it perfectly to completely deflate the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and leave Tudor in a world of problems. The result on Sunday left Spurs winless in 13 league games, increasing their fears of suffering relegation.
Bruno Saltor, Tottenham’s assistant manager, presided over the post-match press conference after Tudor left the stadium immediately due to “personal family matter”. Reflecting on the bleak outcome, the Spaniard lamented that his team lost the rhythm and couldn’t create chances in the second half after going a goal down right at the stroke of half-time.
“The players got affected by the rhythm of the game, and we couldn’t find that rhythm to create more chances,” Bruno Saltor said in his press conference (h/t Football London).
“The first half, the first 44 minutes, I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game.”
Tottenham remain without a league win in 2026
For all the momentum that was built on the back of the Liverpool and Atletico Madrid results, it was sucked out by the defeat to Forest. Igor Jesus’ goal simply knocked the stuffing out of the North Londoners, with the players failing to create anything significant in the second half and threaten Matz Sels in the Forest goal.
It was another long, arduous and painful watch for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful. They were livid with that shambolic display, flooding toward the exit doors long before the final whistle even sounded. Tudor and Co. knew the importance of the game and simply couldn’t afford to lose, yet not only did they do so, but they were also beaten comfortably by the Tricky Trees.
The result left the Lilywhites waiting for the first league win in 2026. Alarm bells are ringing!
