Nottingham Forest gave themselves a much needed boost in their battle to avoid relegation with a handsome victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi saw the Reds sweep aside embattled Spurs with a handsome 3-0 victory that lifted them two places and three points above the drop zone.

Defeat for West Ham at Aston Villa and Leeds’ failure to beat Brentford at home was just what Vitor Pereira needed to cap a positive week that also saw Forest go through to the Europa League quarter finals.

Forest are now 16th in the table – and according to the number crunchers at Opta that’s where they’ll end up on May 24th.

Forest are predicted to compile 41.03 points, with Leeds just above them on 41.93. Woebegone Tottenham are tipped to get 38.47 and scrape their way to safety. Which means it’s Nuno’s West Ham whom Opta think will go down on 37 points.

That would be the highest relegated points total in a decade, since Newcastle went down with 37 in 2015/16. Burnley and Wolves are widely accepted to be doomed to return to the Championship.

Indeed Forest’s chances of going down have now plummeted to just eight per cent. Spurs’ are 27% and West Ham’s 57%.

At the other end Opta reckon Arsenal will amass 84 points and win the league by ten, from Man City, with Man United in third, Aston Villa and Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League.
