Sienna Tindall, the daughter of Newcastle United assistant manager Jason Tindall, sparked a huge reaction from Magpies supporters online after she issued a social media plea in the aftermath of Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby.

Newcastle were beaten by Sunderland for the second time this season as goals from Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey cancelled out Anthony Gordon's opener to condemn Eddie Howe's side to a 2-1 defeat at St James' Park.

The defeat left Newcastle 12th in the Premier League table with just seven games to go, and while European qualification is still achievable this season, another Tyne-Wear derby defeat was a new low in a gruelling season.

It prompted an angry reaction from supporters inside the stadium, with Howe and his players booed from the terraces as they applauded them from the pitch at full-time.

And that anger spilled over online, too, and it prompted Tindall's daughter to speak out about the abuse directed at Newcastle players and staff on social media, urging fans to be united while also acknowledging their right to feel disappointed.

"Losing to Sunderland hurts - especially on a day that should've been about togetherness and arrivals," she said on her Instagram story.

"No one is pretending that result is acceptable, and the players know that better than anyone. But what's not acceptable is turning on our own.

"This group of players has given everything for this club. Week in, week out, they're out there competing across multiple competitions with a squad that simply doesn't have the depth of some of the teams we're up against.

"Fatigue is real. Pressure is real. And still, they show up and fight for the badge every single time.

"It's easy to forget just how far this team has taken us. The progress, the pride, the nights we've all celebrated together - that didn't happen by accident. It came from this group, this manager, this effort.

"Fans can be fickle in moments like this, but we're supposed to be better than that. Behind every player and coach is a family who sees the abuse, reads the comments, and feels it too. That's not what supporting this club should look like.

"We can be disappointed. We can demand better. But we don't tear down our own. We stand behind this team. Always."

The post quickly garnered angry reactions from Newcastle fans and she has since made her privacy settings on Instagram private in the wake of abuse she received from supporters.
