Nottingham Forest arrival Lorenzo Lucca
Nottingham Forest arrival Lorenzo Lucca
Lorenzo Lucca hasn’t played for Nottingham Forest for many weeks in the Premier League. He did score on his debut against Leeds United but things have not gone to plan since then.
Earlier this month, there appeared to be mystery surrounding his absence.Sport Witness covered that his absence was down to an ankle injury. He had flown to Italy to assess the situation, with the issue ruling him out for a few games.
He made his return to action quickly, playing the entirety of the 120 minutes against Midtjylland last week. Despite that, he was excluded from the squad against Tottenham at the weekend.
Nottingham Forest ran out comfortable 3-0 winners, appearing to not miss the striker at all.
The situation now seems to be alarming many in Italy, withAreaNapoli covering the ex-Pisa player.
Difficulties mounting for Lucca
The outlet believe the exclusion against Spurs was ‘hard to swallow’ for Napoli. This is now being described as the most delicate part of Lucca’s career, which fell off the rails in Naples.
The Italian champions inserted an option to buy in the loan at Nottingham Forest and were hoping things turned around. They have, in fact, gone further south and Lucca seems out of Vitor Pereira’s plans.
This is used to highlight the difficulties he is facing adapting to life in England too. Those struggles aren’t just physical but mental too, even if the 25-year-old had a spell away from Italy previously. All of this is made out to be ‘bad news’ for Napoli’s chances of selling him.
Return from Nottingham Forest appearing likely
Sport Witness have covered claims from Italy that have questioned Lucca’s attitude and work ethic. This was always in doubt even at Napoli, where Antonio Conte always wants players to do more physically.
Keeping all that in mind, it doesn’t make sense for the Italian press to be surprised at how things are going.
Any player who arrives in England in January is likely to find difficulties settling in. If Nottingham Forest had signed Lucca in the summer, the player would’ve found it easier.
Now, bringing his career back to life next season at another club is the most logical option for the player.
