Mason Mount’s 2025/26 season with Manchester United has not gone to plan and now his World Cup dreams are in tatters.
In 2025, Mason Mount was one of the most improved players under Ruben Amorim, and the English midfielder was adored by the former Manchester United head coach.
Mount enjoyed a resurgence of form under Amorim, but he has struggled to carry that momentum into 2025/26, especially under Michael Carrick.
When he was appointed England manager, Thomas Tuchel called Mount to speak about his chances of getting into the Three Lions squad. With the 2026 World Cup around the corner, that was always Mason Mount’s goal.

Mason Mount’s World Cup dreams are over after Tuchel decision
Tuchel was a huge admirer of Mount during their time together at Chelsea, so it seemed United’s No.7 had a chance at returning to the first-team picture at England.
But under Carrick, Mount has only played two minutes of football, so he is hardly in good form going into the summer tournament.
While Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were called up by Tuchel for his latest 35-man Three Lions squad, there was no space for Mount.

To rub salt in Mount’s wounds, Eberechi Eze has suffered an injury and pulled out of the squad, but still Mount is not even in Tuchel’s consideration.
Instead, Newcastle United’s Harvey Barnes is set to get a call-up, according to The Mirror. Despite playing in the 2020 Euros and 2022 World Cup for England, Mount’s chances of making the World Cup squad this summer sit at zero. Even with injuries, he is not making the extended 35-man squad.
