Manchester United officials have advised players who have been given time off later this week not to travel to Dubai as the conflict in the Middle East continues.

Those players not involved in international duty are training at Carrington early this week, but have been given time off later in the week and over the weekend and have been told they can go abroad.

But the squad are regularly advised on what they can and can't do during breaks, and although some will be going abroad, they have been advised not to travel to Dubai, a popular holiday hotspot for footballers and usually offering direct flights from Manchester and guaranteed sunshine.

Plenty of European airlines have halted direct flights to the city amid the Iran crisis, but Emirates continues to run two direct flights a day from Manchester Airport.

The current advice from the Foreign Office warns against "all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates", a stance that has been passed on to members of United's squad planning a break later this week.

Iran has launched drone attacks towards territories in the UAE, and last week, flights were temporarily suspended at Dubai's international airport after a fire broke out nearby following a "drone-related incident".. At least three drone strikes have taken place near the airport since the start of the war.

At the start of March, debris from an intercepted Iranian drone damaged two of the city's luxury hotels, the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab and Fairmont The Palm.

Members of the United first-team squad not on international duty include Tom Heaton, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee, while Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have withdrawn from the Cameroon and Slovenia squads, respectively, with fitness concerns.
