Leeds United loanee Mateo Joseph has left the door open for a longer stay at Mallorca but says his future at Elland Road has yet to be decided.

The striker is on a season-long loan at the relegation-threatened La Liga club and has scored in only one of his 29 games so far - a brace against Sevilla back in October. Joseph, who has meanwhile registered three assists, left Leeds under a cloud last summer.

The 22-year-old - who failed to start a Championship game for Leeds in 2025 - refused to join up with the Whites for their pre-season camp in Germany, handing in a request to leave.

“If this is more or less your wish, I as a manager won't stand in the way and accept this because I just want players who want to be here who are buzzing that we can represent this club on Premier League level,” Farke told reporters upon sharing this news.

A loan to Mallorca was ultimately sealed albeit with no purchase option, amid Joseph being admired by chairman Paraag Marathe. Upon his Leeds exit, Joseph said he “would have preferred things to end differently,” adding: “Maybe one day I'll have the chance to tell my side of the story.”

He later claimed: "This season, he (Farke) told me that he wasn't counting on me. Then I saw that there were quotes (saying) he told me that I didn't want to go to Germany, that he couldn't force me. That wasn't the case. He told me that it was fine if I didn't go.

"The most important thing is to have a clear conscience, and I have a very clear conscience that I gave it my all, I worked hard and gave 100 per cent, and I got the most out of that situation. Now I'm eager to continue getting the most out of every situation from now on."

Now, speaking to La Zona 10 in Spain as relayed by Ultima Hora, Joseph hinted that he wouldn’t mind staying on at Mallorca beyond the summer. "I'd like to continue being happy here. When you're happy somewhere, why change?” he mused.

“It doesn't depend much on me because I have a contract with another club. We'll see what the future holds for me.

“I'm grateful to the coaches I've had, also to my teammates, who from day one have made me feel like one of them, and to the sporting director, who has always shown confidence in me.”

Back in September, Leeds managing director Robbie Evans outlined the club’s stance on Joseph, who has a contract at United until 2028.

Evans said: “We think very highly of Mateo. He has all those same characteristics of the right profile, skillset, and can play at any league in Europe, including in the Premier League.

“He needs the minutes… So he’s got a season-long loan, no buy option, and our hope is that he has a phenomenal season at Mallorca and comes back. He’s a favourite of the club, a favourite of the chairman, and so we hope he does great.”
