Man United manager Michael Carrick has been told to drop his captain Bruno Fernandes.
Man United weren’t able to keep their winning run going as they drew with Bournemouth on Friday night. Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal before he assisted an own goal by Bournemouth’s James Hill, but the Cherries also scored twice to match the Red Devils.
Despite dropping points, Carrick’s side are currently third in the Premier League table, and look on course to secure Champions League football for next season. Much of their recent success has been down to captain Fernandes.
The Portugal international has scored eight goals and provided 16 assists in the Premier League this season, but a former Man United defender has told Carrick that he should be dropping Fernandes.
Carrick told to drop Fernandes in favour of Cunha
Parker said: “I think Cunha would give you more with and without the ball, yes, definitely. But people will say, look at the goals Bruno’s made this season.
“At this time, I think you can go and do that, but you'd look at him in the last few games where you're looking for your captain and your so-called ‘playmaker’ to do something for you, and he just doesn't do enough.”
Cunha has regularly featured for United this season, but on the wing, with Fernandes playing in the centre. However, Parker believes that the Red Devils should put Cunha in the middle instead of Fernandes.
This season, the Brazilian has been impressive in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring seven goals and providing two assists since joining from Wolves for £62m in the summer transfer window.
Parker thinks Man United should sign PSG star
Amid his controversial opinion of Fernandes, Parker was asked whether he would bring Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Old Trafford instead, and Parker said the Georgian international would be an excellent signing.
He said: “he is unbelievable and would be a great signing for United, without a shadow of a doubt! He could be a back-to-back Champions League winner, so is he going to want to come to Manchester United? He might be content there at PSG, but he could come out and say that he wants to test himself in another league now he's proven himself in France. Does he want to do that?
“But you look at him and you would say yes as a signing for United, he's a workaholic as well. On that left-hand side, he gives you more quality than Cunha, so you would definitely be looking at him.”
As far as Parker is concerned, he would have Kvaratskhelia on the left-wing, with Cunha in the centre, and Fernandes...on the bench.
