Manchester United have been handed a boost in their hopes of securing a deal to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, according to CF Bayern Insider Christian Falk.
The Red Devils are planning to bolster their midfield as a priority this summer, but there is also an expectation that a new left-back will arrive at Old Trafford as the club look to provide quality competition for Luke Shaw amid the expected departure of Tyrell Malacia at the end of his contract.
The club have had a long-standing interest in Davies, but their hopes to a hit last year when he signed a new contract. But it has now emerged that they could get a fresh opportunity to finally bring him to the Premier League.

Davies has suffered a host of injury problems over the last 12 months, suffering a serious ACL injury in his knee, before recently picking up a thigh injury that will see him sidelined for the coming weeks.
While Bayern are still huge fans of Davies and rate him highly, the 25-year-old could now be considered for a move away due to those injuries, if they receive a big offer.
“It is TRUE: Manchester United are interested in Alphonso Davies," he said.
"They were at the table when questions were being asked as to whether he would sign a new contract at Bayern Munich. They’re still monitoring this player, but he’s, of course, since signed a new contract at the Allianz Arena, so it will be difficult to get him at the moment. But there are also discussions going on at the club as to whether they need a new backup player, given all the injuries Davies keeps picking up. Before, they thought they didn’t need a player on the left-hand side because Hiroki Itō could play there as well.
"However, if there were an offer on the table (and don’t forget it cost Bayern a lot of money to extend Davies), there would be a discussion. But I can say right now that there has yet to be a concrete offer from Manchester United. If there’s an offer, perhaps Bayern will consider it, as the injuries keep coming.”

There are a number of left-back options around the world who would come into Man Utd and make them a better team, but there are very few who are as good as Davies when he's at his best.
The Canadian star's injury troubles are undoubtedly an issue that has to be considered if the club are going to step up their interest, but it's unlikely that there would be a scenario where the pros don't outweigh the cons.
If the fee is respectable and realistic then United could have one of the best left-backs in the world at their disposal next season, and this is a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
