Report: Newcastle likely to sell either Wissa or Woltemade this summer

It is painfully clear that the Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade experiments at Newcastle United have not worked out – and one of them could be off this summer.

Wissa and Woltemade arrived at Newcastle United to replace Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak respectively, though neither have covered themselves in glory.

Does anyone really want to hear this after THAT performance? 😡

There are mitigating factors for both. Woltemade gets unfair criticism at times, but the fact is he has scored ten goals in his first season in England while playing in a team that has hardly functioned.

Wissa, meanwhile, is coming off a bad injury. That doesn’t excuse his performances, but it does offer some context.

Still, it seems one could leave this summer.

Newcastle could sell either Wissa or Woltemade

According to The Daily Telegraph, one of Wissa or Woltemade is likely to be sold this summer even if the club have to take a loss.

There is thought to be a recognition that not selling Isak quickly enough forced the club into making panic buys.

Was selling Isak in the manner they did where the wheels started to come off for PIF at Newcastle?

That was obvious in the summer, given neither of them were top of Newcastle’s wish list.

However, could anyone seriously have imagined it would have played out as badly as this? Woltemade, after all, has been moved to central midfield, and Wissa has hardly had a kick in recent weeks.

Their struggles point to a wider problem with the club’s recruitment rather than anything else.

Who is more likely to leave between Wissa and Woltemade?

That is currently unclear.

Still, the German looks far more likely to attract buyers than Wissa.

Woltemade has been linked with a return to Germany, where Bayern Munich previously tried to sign him.

At 24, he is surely much more likely to attract interest. Selling him over Wissa would be a great shame, but it seems like the more likely outcome.

Newcastle plan to rebuild and they could certainly do with the money such a sale could generate.
