Jamie Carragher’s upbeat message for West Ham United fans

Whilst Hammers fans that watched on tv and at the ground will be dejected at the manner of West Ham’s loss, TV pundit Jamie Carragher has insisted that Irons fans need not get too down in the mouth after their 2- 0 defeat.

One solitary Premier League point gained from successive games playing Manchester City and Aston Villa might actually be more than some fans feared was likely.

More so than the result, it was the evaporation of that fighting spirit that had stood the Hammers in good stead during their fledgling recovery this year that proved most worrisome.

Carragher, however, begs to differ. Speaking today he affirmed:

“Dust yourselves down, forget today happened really and really focus on the next couple of weeks because It’s huge for them (Their next PL game – Wolves at home). They shouldn’t get too disheartened (losing vs Villa). They’ve lost at one of the toughest places to go in the Premier League, and have been in great form.

Paco Jémez – still tipped to make the crucial difference in this relegation battle

Ahead of the Villa encounter last week, an upbeat Carragher insisted on Sky that the Hammers ‘Great Escape 2.0 was still very much within the club’s grasp:

“Obviously a lot has been made about coach (Jemez) I think who has come in under Nuno as well. An attacki ng coach and he’s had, I think, a big impact on West Ham and the fact that they’ve now actually got a fighting chance.”

West Ham fans might agree that Jemez is indeed an attacking coach but without in-form, fit attacking players to put the ball in the net, West Ham will struggle, Optimism, attacking coaches and all.
