Shocking footage from Leeds United’s relegation rivals is exactly what we want to see: View

Leeds United’s 0-0 draw was uninspiring to say the least, but it could be worse. At least we’re not looking nearly as bleak as Tottenham.

I left Elland Road on Saturday night really unsure of how to feel about our 0-0 draw. I was in no doubt about my disappointment at the performance and Daniel Farke’s unwillingness to really go for the kill, when Brentford were there for the taking.

Looking at actual points on the board, though, it moved us (albeit temporarily) four clear of the bottom three. What followed on Sunday would determine, in my mind, whether I’d be content with drawing another game 0-0.

West Ham, Spurs defeats leave Leeds United enjoying four-point gap to bottom three

After Leeds moved four clear, the task for West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Spurs was to use their games on Sunday to make up ground.

West Ham travelled to Aston Villa with two significant injury absentees – Jean-Clair Todibo and Crysencio Summerville missing out – and their performance suffered at both ends. Goals from John McGinn and Ollie Watkins sealed a 2-0 defeat for the Irons that leaves them in the bottom three.

Elsewhere, Spurs hosted Forest in a six-pointer in North London. The home side made a huge thing of the game in the pre-match buildup, hyping up the fans with various promotional posts on social media, as the Spurs fans took to the streets pre-match as though it were a cup final.

Having seen Leeds make huge fanfare of important games in previous seasons, only to lose embarrassingly, I knew how this was going to pan out.

Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Taiwo Awoniyi sealed a stunning 3-0 win for the visitors to jump above Spurs in the process. Forest are now just a point behind Leeds as a result.

Part of the pre-match promo from Spurs’ media team was a theatric, ultra-serious message from captain Cristian Romero to the fans.

In the video, Romero says his side will “fight for everything” in this relegation battle. You can just hear the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme tune now, knowing what followed.

Not only were Spurs soundly beaten, but Romero himself is coming in for a lot of stick online, and rightly so, given he was talking of fight.

A post-match interview was shared by Spurs in which Romero mentions sticking together. Amongst the responses was the snippet of Gibbs-White making it 2-0 through a cut-back. In which, Romero lazily strolls back and is therefore out of position for the ball being fed to the Forest scorer. Had he put the effort in, he would’ve stopped the goal.

Obviously, Leeds have to do our job to stay in the division. But, looking at Spurs, their supposed standout best players are downing tools and that sort of attitude is encouraging to see from our rivals.

Now, they’ve got to sit and stew on this horrific defeat to Forest for three weeks.
