Tottenham are creeping closer and closer to Premier League relegation and that could provide a golden transfer opportunity for Manchester United.
Last season, Manchester United lost to Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final. Since then, both clubs have had very different 2025/26 campaigns.
United are up in third and chasing Champions League qualification under Michael Carrick, while Tottenham are 17th and facing relegation.
A fire-sale of Tottenham’s key players can be expected in the summer if they do crash into the Championship, and Ineos should be all over Lucas Bergvall.

Man Utd missed out on Lucas Bergvall but bargain deal could now happen
United were left kicking themselves when they missed out on Bergvall as a long-term transfer target.
Bergvall was on trial at United in 2022 but Brexit rules stopped the Red Devils from signing him as a teenager.
United continued to scout Bergvall, but Tottenham won the race for his signature and completed an £8.5m deal for him in 2024.

Tottenham’s complete collapse in 2026, where they have failed to win a single game this calendar year, has coincided with Bergvall’s ankle injury.
United were made to regret not signing Bergvall, but this summer could present a golden opportunity to finally bring him to Old Trafford.

Tottenham will be forced to lower £57m Bergvall price tag
Just last month, it was reported that Tottenham want £57m to sell Bergvall, but relegation from the Premier League would surely force them to sell on the cheap.
Bergvall would likely push for an exit to avoid spending a season in the Championship.
The Sweden international did sign a new contract with Tottenham in 2025 which is set to keep him at the London club until 2031, but relegation would surely throw a spanner in the works.

There are unlikely to be many relegation clauses included in Tottenham contracts given how unexpected their league position is. But players forcing their way out of the club will force Spurs to sell on the cheap.
If a Bergvall opportunity arises for United, expect Ineos to be involved.
