“This is the problem…” – Jesse Marsch makes blunt claim on Leeds United’s relegation chances

Leeds United are four points clear of the relegation zone with just seven games to play. Jesse Marsch believes it’s down to stability.

The international break gives us plenty of time to reflect. It’s been a tense month for United with no league wins since that 3-1 triumph against Nottingham Forest.

In spite of what’s been a frustratingly toothless run of form, Leeds are four clear of the drop and in far better spirits than those below us.

Jesse Marsch answers if Leeds United will stay in the Premier League this season

A man who has secured survival from this sort of position in the past is Jesse Marsch. He’s keen to let us all know he achieved survival during the 21/22 season, thanks to Raphinha’s magic more than anything.

However, from the outside looking in, Marsch is enthused by what he’s seen from Daniel Farke’s approach at Elland Road. Importantly, the American believes Farke has done well to quell any lingering panic amongst the ’emotional’ fanbase.

“It’ll be a challenge,” Marsch told GiveMeSport, when asked if we will stay up. “Leeds is a big club, it’s a very emotional club. I think when you’re the manager there, one of the keys is trying to maintain calm and patience.

“I think Daniel Farke has done a pretty good job of that. I still know the 49ers, and I know they’re trying to create the stability at the club, and they have a long-term vision.”

Marsch has often opined that he wasn’t given enough time in West Yorkshire. We heard consistently that we were trending upwards and the results would turn. If he was given more faith from the club, he claims we were on the right path.

It’s worth noting Marsch picked up just two league wins between 22nd August 2022 and his dismissal on 6th February 2023.

In keeping with his view that he shouldn’t have been sacked, Marsch believes the key to staying in the league and avoiding danger is ensuring stability. The ex-Leeds boss heaps praise on the 49ers for steering clear of an ongoing ‘knee-jerk’ trend across sports.

“Again, this is the problem in sports. It’s not just Premier League, not just football. The best organisations that have a long-term vision and the ones that stick to it are successful,” Marsch continued.

“The ones that are knee-jerk and think they always have a better idea, better solution, a better person, a better leader – they’re the ones that always get caught in danger.

“So, I believe that the 49ers are the type of people that understand how to create longevity and how to have a plan and stick to it.”

49ers credited for sticking to their guns at Leeds United with Daniel Farke

There is something to be said about the fact we’re sitting above three teams that have all dismissed managers this season.

Of course, there’s an argument to be made that a different manager gets more out of this current Leeds squad. West Ham and Nottingham Forest will testify that managers can make a huge difference with their squads.

That being said, ensuring stability with Farke’s position has allowed the fans and players to be united towards our goal of staying up.

Panic is the last thing we need, and thankfully Farke is the sort of character to dismiss it.
