Kobbie Mainoo leads praise for Maxi Oyedele after impressive first goal for Strasbourg

Former Manchester United midfielder Maxi Oyedele showed a glimpse of his quality with his first goal for Strasbourg.

Kobbie Mainoo has led the praise for former teammate Maxi Oyedele after his goal for Strasbourg against Nantes.

Mainoo and Oyedele were both part of Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning squad in 2022.

Oyedele impressed for United in pre-season 2024, but was then sold to Legia Warsaw. United then profited from a sell-on clause when he was sold to Strasbourg in 2025.

The midfielder’s season has been wrecked by injury this year. He was making his first start for Strasbourg at the weekend when he scored at the end of the first half in a 3-2 victory.

Kobbie Mainoo leads message to Maxi Oyedele

Maxi Oyedele’s goal was a reminder of the quality that he has. He is a player that Darren Fletcher tipped to become a “top player”.

It is good to see him bounce back from injury and hit form. He might go on to make United seriously regret letting him leave.

Oyedele has already made international debut

Born in Salford, Maxi Oyedele was eligible to play international football for England, Nigeria and Poland.

He chose to represent Poland at youth level, and after signing for Legia Warsaw he was called up to the senior squad. He made his debut last season, playing an international fixture against Bruno Fernandes and Portugal.

Injuries have halted his international progress, but at 21, he has time on his side. If he scores a few more goals like he did at the weekend, a recall is only a matter of time.
