Andy Mitten shares latest Elliot Anderson to Man Utd transfer update, ‘I’d be surprised…’

Elliot Anderson is the dream transfer target for Manchester United, and respected insider Andy Mitten has shared the latest on the same.

Man Utd’s midfield revamp is set to be the story of the summer transfer window, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is just one of the names on the list.

He joins the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes, to name just a few, but his skill set is the most complete of them all.

On paper, he’s the perfect Casemiro replacement, and Andy Mitten has shared the latest on what’s happening with his potential move to Old Trafford.

Elliot Anderson to Man Utd latest transfer update

United’s path to Anderson is complicated as a result of the player’s own success, which has attracted interest from every elite club.

From Man City to Bayern Munich, most top clubs in need of a defensive midfielder have their eye on him.

United need to do a major presentation of their project to convince him to reject everyone else, and as it stands, that’s not looking likely.

Speaking on The Talk of the Devils podcast, Mitten said that he’d be ‘surprised’ if Anderson joins United, just a few months after saying United were ‘well-positioned’ for him.

He said: “I’d be surprised if he [Elliot Anderson] came. I hope he does come. Just the competition for him is so, so strong.

“He’s in an extremely good position, where both Manchester clubs want to sign him. United have just got to push forward and not put all their hopes in one player.”

United’s clear Anderson playbook

Anderson might have been the dream target, but he was far from the only target, and even though United will still try to convince him, they have alternatives.

One thing Ineos haven’t compromised on in the transfer window is going for players only if they want to join the club.

Once they turn their eyes elsewhere, United don’t spend ages working on those deals, as evidenced by their moving on from Liam Delap last summer.

In the same manner, Anderson is likely to be one whose future is sorted early, in or against United’s favour.

If it’s in favour of United, they can end the bidding war by entering into exclusive talks with Forest, like they did with Bryan Mbeumo.

If not, they can just move on, because the midfield market is rich this summer, making it the perfect time to stage a revamp in the most important area of the pitch.
