Manchester United insist they remain "a very attractive proposition for sponsors and partners" amid concerns over the drop in sponsorship revenue. United confirmed a decrease in commercial revenue in their second quarter financial results, which were released last month.

United's training kit sponsorship agreement with Tezos was worth £24million per season, but it expired at the end of June. That means United have gone this season without a training kit sponsor for the first time since 2021/2022, when their agreement with AON concluded.

Matheus Cunha was pictured in a Tezos-sponsored hoodie in unveiling pictures when he signed from Wolves, but the deal had expired by the time of Bryan Mbeumo's arrival.

The club are braced for a further blow because their sleeve sponsorship deal with DXC Technology, which is thought to be worth £20m per season, will expire at the end of the campaign.

For four seasons, DXC has been featured on the club’s home, away and third kits. The multi-year partnership has seen DXC use their expertise to improve the way United engage with fans through their digital platforms.

United sources claim there is a strong pipeline of new sponsors waiting in the wings, and a club spokesperson echoed that sentiment at the latest fans' forum when asked whether there was concern about the "slip" in United's financial standing, and about attracting new sponsors.

The spokesperson said: "We continue to see strong commercial performance – we are one of the world’s biggest clubs and are a very attractive proposition for sponsors and partners. This is reflected in the regular conversations we have with brands from around the world.

"This season our revenues have dipped due to fewer matches played at Old Trafford and our men’s team not playing in European competition – it’s important we stick together and support the team in finishing as high as possible in the Premier League."

The fans' forum representatives asked whether supporters would pay for decisions made by the club, like failing to agree new sponsors or dismissing Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff.

United said: "We reluctantly made the decision to part ways with Ruben to give us the best chance of finishing as high as possible in the league. We have a clear objective to return Manchester United to the top of domestic and European football.

"We want to keep investing in the team and improving our facilities so fans get the best possible experience. We also need to make sure the club stays financially sustainable, taking inflation and rising costs into account. This is why it’s important we continue to drive revenues."
