Elia Caprile
Elia Caprile has come a long way since his time at Leeds United. Aston Villa have been mentioned as a suitor for the goalkeeper, whose agent has spoken up about his future.
The Italian joined Cagliari initially on loan from Napoli in January 2025. Since then, he has played 50 times in all competitions, becoming a key player for the Sardinian side.
This has allowed him to be in and around the Italian national side too, with major Serie A sides keeping a close eye on him.

Earlier this month,Sport Witness covered claims about interest from Aston Villa, with Emi Martinez nearing a departure. Caprile’s agent has now hinted at the fact that many clubs have been monitoring the goalkeeper for a while now.
Caprile focused on the present
GB1 agency’s Graziano Battistini spoke to Stile TV about his client’s future. He clarified that the ex-Leeds player is focused on the present, even if list of suitors are rising.
He said – relayed by CalcioCasteddu: “I would focus only on the present because right now Elia must continue to play his part in the league so that Cagliari can achieve its goals.”
When focusing on suitors, Battistini insisted that interest from clubs doesn’t mean that a deal is done. There is a long way to go before any team comes forward for the keeper.
“It’s true that the boy is being monitored by higher-level clubs. But being monitored is one thing, discussing and closing the deal is another.”
This comes right after Aston Villa’s interest has been highlighted once again in Italy, with Unai Emery’s side scouting the player. Tottenham are also doing the same, with Guglielmo Vicario linked with an exit from the London side.
Aston Villa a big jump for Caprile
It is fair to say that the 24-year-old certainly deserves a move from Cagliari soon. He has impressed enough to get a major transfer, which explains why the likes of Inter Milan and AC Milan are also keen.
That jump – including a potential move to Aston Villa, would take some effort. Elia Caprile is at the perfect age but that next step doesn’t always pay off.
Unai Emery’s side might yet play in the Champions League, with the Italian yet to ever make a mark in the competition. That is why – despite Caprile’s quality and leadership, a step elsewhere before he makes the ultimate jump to a Champions League club makes more sense.
