Man United have been linked to signing Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly ahead of the summer.

Shaw, 30, has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, and so will need replacing in the near future. It is very possible that United could extend his deal as he has impressed under Carrick this season, but either way, they will need some competition for the English left-back.

Lewis-Skelly has emerged as a surprise candidate ahead of the summer, as his role at Arsenal has significantly reduced, but it is not yet clear whether United will make a move. They are also keen on other left-back targets.

Man United plot ‘concrete offer’ for Davies

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies is also reportedly on Man United’s radar, which would be a real blockbuster signing. Davies is undoubtedly one of the best left-backs in world football, and so, if United could sign him, it would be a major coup.

According to Journalist Christian Falk, Man United are interested in the Canada international ahead of the summer. He told CFBayern: “It is TRUE: Manchester United are interested in Alphonso Davies.

“They were at the table when questions were being asked as to whether he would sign a new contract at Bayern Munich. They’re still monitoring this player, but he’s, of course, since signed a new contract at the Allianz Arena, so it will be difficult to get him at the moment.

“However, if there were an offer on the table (and don’t forget it cost Bayern a lot of money to extend Davies), there would be a discussion. But I can say right now that there has yet to be a concrete offer from Manchester United. If there’s an offer, perhaps Bayern will consider it.”

Which other left-backs have United been linked with?

Seeing as the left-back position is one of Man United’s key targets this summer, the Red Devils have been linked to a lot of top full-back options across Europe. Davies isn’t the only Bundesliga star that United are keen on.

He is less proven than Davies, but he is younger, and so could be a wiser investment. This season, the German international has made 35 appearances for Frankfurt, scoring four goals and providing six assists. The only issue with Brown is that he’s used to playing in a back five or a back three, which would have suited Ruben Amorim more than Carrick.
