'I'm told...' - Richard Keys drops major Newcastle bombshell he's hearing out of Saudi

Richard Keys has shared a 'whisper' that he has heard about the Saudi PIF and Newcastle United recently, in a bombshell revelation that could rock the club.

The Magpies have had a mixed campaign and currently sit 12th in the Premier League following a disappointing derby day defeat to Sunderland this past weekend, leaving them on the brink of missing out on European qualification altogether for next season, while they were humiliated by Barcelona in the Champions League to be eliminated 8-3 on aggregate.

There have been some question marks raised about the future of manager Eddie Howe as a result of the poor season, but it has now emerged that there could be even bigger changes on the way at St James' Park.

Saudi PIF Want to Sell Newcastle

The Saudi PIF completed a takeover of Newcastle United worth £305m back in October 2021, making the Magpies the richest club in world football, with aspirations to take over world football and become a dominant force in the Premier League.

But financial restrictions placed upon the club have seen them struggle to fulfill their potential so far, although they have qualified for the Champions League twice and ended a 70-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in 2025.

But now, BeIN Sport presenter Keys has revealed in his blog that he has been told they are looking to sell the club, and there are parties interested in making a deal.

"Another whisper I picked up recently - and I don’t think this will come as a surprise to anybody - I’m told the Saudi’s are looking to sell Newcastle.

"Regulars know I’ve been saying for some time the project was over Apparently there are interested parties, but the Saud’s want £1b. £500m is nearer the mark."

Saudi Sale Would Be Huge Blow for Newcastle

Newcastle still have aspirations of challenging at the top end of the table and being competitive in cup competitions, but if they were to lose their owners it would be a big blow to their hopes.

With Keys stating that the PIF will be pushing for around £1bn to sell up, it seems highly unlikely that a deal is close to being agreed or imminent, despite interested parties.

However, should they drop their price, there would be chances of this story moving along rather quickly. Newcastle fans will be hoping that Keys is misinformed and there is nothing to the story, but it's something to keep a close eye on in the coming months.
