Opinion: Sky Sports completely overlook Everton as European qualification development shared

Sky Sports have overlooked Everton in their analysis of the Premier League race to land European qualification.

Victory at the weekend has put David Moyes’ side in a strong position to really push on in the final seven games of the campaign.

Everton have gone into the international break sitting in eighth spot, but level on points with seventh-placed Brentford and just three points off fifth spot.

Surely everyone is Moyes in now? 🤔

Jarrad Branthwaite thinks Everton have the quality to qualify for Europe, but it will not surprise many Evertonians to see Sky Sports have overlooked them ahead of the run-in.

Sky Sports overlook Everton in European qualification race

Everton could qualify for the Champions League by finishing seventh this season, but that would take a lot to go in their favour.

English dominance in the European competitions continues to open more spots for teams to qualify for the competitions.

Sky Sports have analysed the race for the top seven spots, with the notion of Champions League qualification shared.

Despite being level on points with Brentford, Sky Sports have decided to only focus on the top seven clubs as the respective remaining fixtures are highlighted.

A significant return from the international break awaits the Blues as they travel to none other than Brentford in a couple of weeks’ time.

Sky analysed the strength of the remaining fixtures, with the average position of Brentford’s remaining opposition coming in at 8.43m which is only beaten by Liverpool’s 7.29 and Man City’s 8.29.

Everton still have a real mixture of sides to face when it comes to the quality of opposition remaining.

The Blues have Liverpool and Man City to play, but they will also face relegation-battling Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

As a result, Everton have more favourable remaining fixtures than Brentford, with their average coming in at 10.5.

Everton can use their underdog mentality to push for Europe

If outlets like Sky Sports want to overlook Everton then it should only add fuel to the fire back at Finch Farm.

Everton have only been given a 1.9% chance of making the top five, despite only being three points behind their city rivals.

Going into the remaining fixtures without the pressure of being favoured in the European race could well favour the Blues.

Everton’s away form has been exceptional this season, which could prove advantageous given the Toffees have four away games remaining.

A lot of football remains to be played, but Everton could lay a real marker by beating Brentford on their return from the international break.
