Villa heroes reflect on 1996 triumph

The heroes of Aston Villa's 1996 League Cup victory came together at Villa Park recently to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Wembley win.

On March 24, 1996, there were euphoric scenes at the national stadium as Villa romped to a 3-0 victory against Leeds United.

Over 77,000 fans were in attendance as goals from Savo Milošević, Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke secured a fifth League Cup.

And to mark the anniversary, three of the team and manager Brian Little got together for a special roundtable to reminisce about that fine day in the capital.

The man who lifted the trophy, captain Andy Townsend, was joined by Little and teammates Alan Wright and Mark Draper at Villa Park, while Mark Bosnich joined the conversation from overseas.

The quartet had a great time recalling the buildup to the game, the qualities of the Villa team that day and their emotions at the full-time whistle.
