Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick and his players headed into the international break fully lodged in third position. The Reds let two leads slip in their 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth, but Liverpool and Chelsea losing to Brighton and Hove Albion and Everton respectively meant the stalemate with the Cherries was a good point won.

With seven Premier League matches left and no clashes in Europe or the FA Cup on the horizon, United are in an excellent place to qualify for the Champions League. Moreover, there have also been some promising injury updates.

After the international break, United face Leeds United on April 13 and take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge five days later. Looking ahead to those clashes and others, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at United's current injury list and who may soon be making a return.

Matthijs de Ligt

According to the Sun, Matthijs de Ligt is optimistic he can take to the field under Carrick before the end of the campaign. The former Ajax captain has not appeared for United since the 2-1 away victory against Crystal Palace, back at the end of November.

He has been nursing a back injury which has only seemed to get worse. However, he is hoping to play for the Reds before the season's end on May 24. The Dutchman was only expected to be out for a week when he got his injury just before December, but sources have claimed it was more "complicated" than first thought.

De Ligt has been reporting for training at Carrington. It's understood he and the club were happy for him to not undergo surgery, with his back recovering positively.

Patrick Dorgu

United are feeling optimistic about Patrick Dorgu's current recovery - but have still refused to put a timeframe on his return.

The Dane burst into life in Carrick's opening two games, scoring a vital goal in the Manchester Derby before firing an unstoppable rocket off the underside of the crossbar and into the net in the 3-2 away victory over Arsenal.

However, the versatile left-back, who also starred as a left-winger under Carrick, picked up an injury at the Emirates Stadium and has been out since.

Nevertheless, the club appear to be feeling positive about his recovery journey, as they uploaded a video of him training. While there is no timeframe, the club stated "he is working carefully with a view to returning this season."

Lisandro Martinez

Carrick is hoping to be able to call upon Lisandro Martinez next month. Martinez has endured an injury hit campaign and has not featured since the away draw over West Ham.

With Harry Maguire suspended after his controversial red card against Bournemouth, Martinez, provided he is fit enough to do so, will be deployed in the back four.

With De Ligt also still injured, Carrick only has Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven as out and out central defenders to choose from.

Fortunately for the Reds, there are still several weeks between now and the clash against Leeds, so there is time for Martinez to get back to full fitness.

Bryan Mbeumo

Yesterday, Bryan Mbeumo pulled out of international duty. He was initially expected to take part in Cameroon's upcoming friendly fixtures against Australia and China.

However, United confirmed he has been withdrawn from the Indomitable Lions' squad as a "precaution". The overall picture is positive for United, as BBC Sport reports he's expected to be fit for the clash against Leeds.

Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko had been expected to feature for Slovenia against Hungary and Montenegro during the international break. It's now been confirmed he will not do so as United are trying to manage a niggling injury he has been carrying in recent weeks.

But like Mbeumo, he is expected to be available to face Leeds across the international break.
