Noa Lang receives medical attention during Galatasaray's Champions League defeat to Liverpool

Galatasaray forward Noa Lang avoided having his finger amputated despite suffering a serious injury against Liverpool. Lang was carried off on a stretcher after colliding with the advertising boards in the closing stages of his side’s 4-0 defeat at on Wednesday night.

The forward had to be given oxygen before being stretchered off the field of play and he went on to have surgery at Whiston Hospital before returning to Turkey. And in an update, Galatasaray club doctor Yener Ince revealed: “I want to talk about the condition of our two players who were injured in the Round of 16 match against Liverpool.

“Our player Noa Lang has suffered a serious injury to the first finger of his right hand. I want to clarify that there is no complete amputation; however, the injury is significant. Because this area needed urgent repair, he underwent a successful operation in Liverpool as quickly as possible, without being brought to Istanbul.

“Currently, there appear to be no problems, but the Galatasaray medical team is monitoring him. We are in close contact with the Dutch national team's medical staff, with whom we have had good communication for a long time.

“Lang will not play in the first match for the Dutch national team, and after further assessments, if conditions allow, we plan for him to return to the field in the second match. We aim for Noa Lang to return to the pitch as soon as possible with a special training program.”

The club’s general secretary Eray Yazgan told : "After the match, we lodged a complaint with UEFA representatives regarding the matter. They conducted their investigation.

"UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are consulting with lawyers. We will submit our compensation claim to . We will request that our grievances regarding salaries be addressed.

"If our request is not met, a lawsuit may be filed. Our priority is the health of our players."

Following the game, and UEFA officials were spotted investigating the advertising hoarding where the incident occurred.

Lang had been introduced as a half-time substitute for Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian striker had hurt his wrist in an early challenge.

And in the same update, Dr Ince said: “Another of our players, Victor Osimhen, underwent a successful operation today. His recovery will be monitored daily, and our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible. Updates will be shared with the public by our club throughout the process.”
