Eddie Howe is a brilliant manager who could walk into most other Premier League jobs.
That is the view of former Newcastle United forward Michael Owen, who believes Howe is still the best manager for the job at St James' Park, despite increasing pressure on his position in the dugout.
Newcastle were beaten 2-1 at home to fierce rivals Sunderland on Sunday as goals from Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey cancelled out Anthony Gordon's opener.
It has left the Magpies 12th in the Premier League table, four points off the European places, with just seven league games remaining and Howe was faced with boos from the terraces as he and his players trudged off the field.
It is understood he still retains the backing of the Newcastle hierarchy and he will be given the end of the season and the summer transfer window to make improvements after a bruising season.
Newcastle competed well in the cups, reaching the Carabao Cup semi-final and the Champions League last 16 but their league form has undoubtedly waned.
Across his four years at the helm, Howe has qualified for the Champions League twice, reached two cup finals and ended Newcastle's 70-year domestic wait to lift a trophy.
But this has undoubtedly been his toughest season in charge yet and as scrutiny increases over his position, Owen believes Howe has to be trusted to lead the team forward despite the difficulties this season has presented.
"Eddie Howe is a brilliant manager," Owen the official UK ambassador for Casino.org, a trusted comparison website highlighting the best online casinos for UK players, said.

"He brought Newcastle their first trophy and Champions League football. This year hasn’t gone as planned and the only slight fault that could possibly be shared is the recruitment hasn’t been as good as it could be, but you have to understand the circumstances of the recruitment.
"The Isak transfer was dragging on for so long, this was very difficult for Newcastle as they didn’t want to sell him. It’s also a case of be careful what you wish for as Eddie could walk into most Premier League jobs and be a success.
"So, I would say there is no question on his future as he is the right man for Newcastle for sure."
