It was a big week for Brighton loan players, with Brajan Gruda dominating in Germany for RB Leipzig, Diego Coppola impressing for Paris FC, and Carl Rushworth securing another clean important sheet in the Championship.
The Brighton Base takes a closer look at these performances and at how the rest of the Brighton loan army got on in the last week.
Evan Ferguson (AS Roma): vs. Lecce
Out for the season with an ankle injury.
Brajan Gruda (RB Leipzig): vs. Hoffenheim
Scored two goals and assisted another in RB Leipzig’s dominant 5-0 win over Hoffenheim. Following the strong performance, reports emerged from Germany claiming that the Bundesliga outfit will look to open talks with the Seagulls about signing the playmaker on a permanent deal.
Diego Coppola (Paris FC): vs. Le Havre
Assisted Paris FC’s opening goal in Ligue 1 club’s 3-2 win over Le Havre on Sunday. The centre-back rose highest from a corner to tee up fellow Italian Ciro Immobile to score in the 29th minute.
Facundo Buonanotte (Leeds): vs. Brentford
Was not included in the Leeds team against Brentford. The loanee has been left out of the Whites’ squad for the last two Premier League matches. He has not played for the club since Daniel Farke said that Buonanotte needs to ‘get on with it’ earlier this month.
Tommy Watson (Millwall): vs. Ipswich Town
Featured for just seven minutes from the bench in his side’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town. The Englishman has played just 53 minutes across four matches for the Lions in March and only started twice since joining the Championship club in the winter transfer window.
Malick Yalcouye (Swansea City): vs. Coventry City
Played 23 minutes as a substitute in Swansea City’s 3-0 loss to Coventry City.
Ibrahim Osman (Birmingham City): vs. Derby County
Played 58 minutes as a left wing-back in Birmingham City’s 1-0 defeat to Derby County. Before the match, Blues boss Chris Davies praised Osman’s ‘unorthodox ability’ and his ‘attacking spirit’, but the Ghanaian didn’t make a major impact against Derby.
James Beadle (Birmingham City): vs. Derby County
Played 90 minutes during the 1-0 loss to Derby County. The England U21 international made five saves, but faced some criticism for not doing more to stop Rhian Brewster’s winning goal for the Rams.
Eiran Cashin (Blackburn Rovers): vs. Middlesbrough
Played all 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough. The Irishman has become a key player for Blackburn since joining in January. He has started almost every match since his debut and been named their Player of the Month twice.
Jeremy Sarmiento (Middlesbrough): vs. Blackburn Rovers
Played nine minutes from the bench in a 0-0 draw with Cashin’s Blackburn Rovers.
Carl Rushworth (Coventry City): vs. Swansea City
Kept a clean sheet for Coventry City in a 3-0 win over Swansea City. The 24-year-old now has 14 clean sheets this season.
His side remain well on-track to win the Championship, prompting a new round of transfer rumours this week. Recent reports state that the goalkeeper could be available for between £15m and £20m this summer.
Amario Cozier-Duberry (Bolton Wanderers): vs. Doncaster Rovers and Port Vale
The winger is still recovering from his knee ligament injury. However, Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher has revealed the loanee is back working with squad and should be able to fully return to training sometime after the international break.
“I don’t know whether he’ll be available for Plymouth (after the international break), probably not, but we’ll see. But he’s certainly going to be available for six of the eight games,” Schumacher said ahead of the Port Vale match last week.
Yoon Do-young (FC Dordrecht): vs. TOP Oss and FC
Played 78 minutes in a 2-2 draw with TOP Oss before being sent off for a challenge through the back of left-back Bryan Van Hove. It was the winger’s second yellow of the match and his fourth overall of the Eerste Divisie season
Kamari Doyle (Reading): vs. Burton Albion and Stevenage
Scored for Reading in their 2-1 win over Burton Albion before starting again on Saturday in a 1-0 loss to Stevenage. After the Burton win, Royals boss Leam Richardson praised Doyle’s strike and his attitude.
“Kami’s was an unbelievable strike,” he said. “For a loan player to be like that, it is unbelievable. For a loan player to wear the Reading badge and be that emotional, it was unbelievable.”
Mark O’Mahony (Reading): vs. Burton Albion and Stevenage
Remains out with an undisclosed long-term injury.
Caylan Vickers (Wigan Athletic): vs. Barnsley and Exeter City
Played 26 minutes off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Barnsley. The 21-year-old then started Wigan Athletic’s 2-0 win over Exeter City, but was subbed off at half-time.
Jacob Slater (Harrogate Town): vs. Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic
Played 90 minutes in Harrogate Town’s 3-0 win over Tranmere Rovers last Tuesday and their 1-0 loss to Oldham Athletic over the weekend.
