Leeds United are set to move and repaint the much-loved mural of Don Revie’s legendary 1972 FA Cup winners due to the expansion of Elland Road.

The artwork - which sits outside the North East corner - was commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust [LUST] and was unveiled in 2022, marking 50 years since the great Wembley triumph.

However, the wall of the building on which the mural is painted is set to become the club’s new security hub as work on the West Stand expansion begins. This will require kiosk windows to be installed, something not foreseen when the mural was originally completed.

Work on the new security hub begins on Wednesday, with the old one - located at the back of the West Stand - set to be demolished.

As a result of this, the club have recommissioned Nicolas Dixon, who hand-painted the initial design, to repaint the artwork entirely.

The new mural looks set to be relocated not too far from the original site, Leeds Live has learned. The club has thanked the LUST for their co-operation and support.

The design includes the portraits, designed by sports artist Paul Trevillion, of FA Cup heroes David Harvey, Paul Reaney, Paul Madeley, Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Terry Cooper, Peter Lorimer, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones, Johnny Giles, Eddie Gray, Mick Bates, Les Cocker and Don Revie.

In January, Leeds were granted full permission to expand the West Stand with outline approval given for the extension of the North Stand. Once all work is completed, the capacity will rise to around 53,000.

Preparation works are already underway with main construction set to commence this summer. The bulk of the building work will take place during summer and international break periods.
