These images were captured by a Watford Observer in February 1981 when Watford-born Terry Scott was among the 20,786-strong attendance at the home of the Hornets to watch Graham Taylor’s side face league leaders West Ham United.

The former pupil of Field Junior School, who is best remembered for starring alongside June Whitfield in the BBC1 sitcom Terry and June, happily posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans at the Division Two fixture.

Scott, who died in 1994, did see Watford score through Malcolm Poskett, but it was not enough to prevent one of the great Hammers sides secure a 2-1 victory en route to winning the title by a 13-point margin in the days of two points for a win.

Taylor’s team were to finish 23 points further back in ninth, giving Watford their highest ever league finish at that point in the club’s history.
