Danny Murphy highlights why ‘it is impossible’ for Igor Tudor to stay at Tottenham

Tottenham interim boss Igor Tudor remains winless in the Premier League after five games.

Tottenham Hotspur entered the March international break without a Premier League win in 2026. Their winless run continued with a 3-0 home defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Lilywhites’ top-flight status is in all sorts of trouble. There was a great chance to win the “six-pointer” against Nottingham Forest and move up the table after garnering some momentum with results in the past two games. However, when the important game arrived, Igor Tudor and Co. failed to perform.

Nottingham Forest were full value of the three points. They were organised, disciplined, compact and unified throughout the 90 minutes. Going forward, the Tricky Trees were clinical in front of goal and cleverly managed the game. Vitor Pereira tactically outclassed Igor Tudor and claimed valuable three points in the race to stay in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Danny Murphy claims Igor Tudor’s position is untenable at Tottenham

Spurs are one point and one place above the relegation zone, and looking at their remaining games, it is hard to see where the wins will come from.

Known as a firefighter, someone to come in and pick up results in a short space of time, Igor Tudor has done nothing. He is yet to guide the club to a victory in the Premier League, picking up just a point from five games.

Sunday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest could prove to be the final straw for the Croatian, as things have become worse under his short tenure in North London. At least, in the eyes of former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy, it is. He feels the environment has become so toxic and deflated for the players to perform, urging the Tottenham board to listen to their fans’ plea and sack Tudor for a new manager quickly to save the club.

“I think it’s impossible for him to stay. I really do,” Danny Murphy told BBC Match of the Day (h/t BBC Sport).

“It’s really difficult for the players to play in an environment that’s so deflated and toxic.

“The only way you can change that is either winning games, which they’re not doing, or change a manager – what the fans want. If they keep him in charge, it’s five league games without a win. A new guy comes in, gets one win, and it can turn quickly. It’s a risk worth taking, and I think they’ll take it.

“The players don’t really look like they’re at it. They’ve had a couple of decent performances this week, and maybe people thought that the corner had been turned, but confidence was low again after they conceded.

“He made two changes at half-time, and that didn’t make them any better. If anything, they got worse as the second half went on.”

Tudor has not managed to get the best out of the squad and oversee positive results since being appointed the interim boss in February. Should the club make a change in the dugout, the North Londoners may get a lift and survive the drop. The priority is to get the next appointment spot on, as Tudor has run out of time.
