Watkins and Onana Hail Aston Villa's 'Best Performance'

Two **Aston Villa**players reflected on a 2-0 victory for their team against **West Ham**on Sunday.

Ollie Watkins wrapped up the win with a finish from close range as the Villans went within one point of third placed Manchester United, and their fight for a **Champions League**spot has strengthened.

“It was massive for us, the last game going into the international break. All the teams around us played before and dropped points, so we knew the job at hand today. We’ve taken that and maximised our opportunity to push on and get into those Champions League spots.

*“It was sweet because I had quite a few opportunities in the game, and the one you least expect – following in off a rebound – fell to me nicely. I’ve done well to lift it over the ‘keeper, so I’m really happy with that. I’m glad that, after a bit of poor form, we’ve come here against West Ham, who we knew were going to make it difficult, and put in one of the best performances we’ve had this season.”*

Onana praises midfield partners

Amadou Onana, meanwhile, offered praise for a pair of midfield teammates on the afternoon.

“John is a player who can do everything. He can defend, he can attack, he can shoot, he can pass.”

*“I think these types of players are high-quality players; we know what Youri Tielemans is capable of. I think I, personally, missed him a lot. The team as well. Adding someone like John McGinn, it just gives a different feel, and we can create way more threat.*

*“It was one of those days where everything you try works out. This is nothing but my job, that’s what they brought me for and that’s what I try to do week in, week out. I just did an interception, part of my job: I give it to the likes of Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Buendia and those players to do their job.”*
