Mateus Fernandes hails Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as his idol
Mateus Fernandes would be a brilliant signing for United this summer, adding versatility and aggression to the midfield, along with real quality.
Now, on international duty with Portugal, the West Ham midfielder has spoken to O Jogo, admitting that he idolises Bruno Fernandes.
“I was a little nervous on the first day because I was going to train with players I saw on television and who were role models”, he explained.

“The biggest one right now is Bruno [Fernandes] because of the player he already is.
“Back when I was at Sporting, I looked up to him and tried to learn from him. He plays in the same league as me, he has a lot of experience with the national team, and, in the Premier League, I try to watch him a lot. Without a doubt, he stands out.”
With Mateus Fernandes’ admiration for Bruno Fernandes, the United captain could end up playing a big role in convincing him to join the club this summer if Ineos decide to make a move.
It would also give United an interestingly named midfield with two Fernandeses.

Sporting CP star Joao Simoes also admires Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes is clearly a hero for the next generation of Portuguese midfielders, and among them is highly rated Sporting talent Joao Simoes.
Speaking to RTP Sport, Simoes admitted to admiring Fernandes.
“The main reference in the senior national team is Bruno Fernandes, but I played against Vitinha recently, and I could see why he is so highly praised. He really is a great player. I try to take a bit from each of them and apply it to each game. I will work as hard as I can to reach where they are,” he stressed.
Simoes is considered among the finest talents in Portugal right now, and United could end up using the Fernandes link to attract his signature.
