In the event that Harry Maguire doesn’t renew his contract at the end of the season, Manchester United have begun identifying alternative options such as Antonio Rudiger ahead of the summer transfer window.
With just seven games to play in the 2025/16 Premier League season, Manchester United are preparing to strengthen the squad in the summer as well as decide on who will be the head coach next season.
Casemiro’s exit was announced in January, but Harry Maguire has yet to sign a new deal with his current contract set to expire in the summer.
Michael Carrick has stressed that he enjoys working with Maguire, but it remains to be seen if the interim head coach will have a say in rewarding the 33-year-old centre-back with a new contract to remain at Old Trafford.

Man Utd view Antonio Rudiger as Harry Maguire alternative
United have to plan for every scenario to ensure they are covered for whatever happens in the summer transfer window.
That means United are likely to draw up alternative options if players like Maguire leave the club, even if that is deemed unlikely.
According to TuttoSport, Germany international Antonio Rudiger has emerged on United’s radar if he decides to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.

The 33-year-old, who spent five years at Chelsea, has won two Champions League triumphs throughout his career and would bring a wealth of experience to United.
However, the question is at what cost? Maguire knows United inside out and has proved to be a fantastic professional during his time at the club.
The report adds that United’s interest in Rudiger is only active in the event that Maguire doesn’t renew his contract, but that scenario is now losing ground.
Rudiger has been limited to just 18 appearances this season, with the Germany international hindered by injuries.
In comparison, Maguire has played 18 of United’s 31 league matches, on top of two appearances in domestic cup competitions.

Harry Maguire recognised as one of England’s best again
Even at the age of 33, Maguire’s recent England call-up should account for something.
It means Maguire has again been recognised as one of England’s top centre-backs.
There is no guarantee Maguire will make Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup, but over the upcoming two international friendlies, he has a chance to play in front of the Three Lions manager for the first time.
Maguire previously served England well as one of Gareth Southgate’s trusted lieutenants.
