James Garner has spoken about Everton manager David Moyes following his England call-up, but his comments are a damning indictment towards Sean Dyche.
Thomas Tuchel has finally called up Garner to the England side, with two international friendlies left to be played ahead of the World Cup.
Moyes has been able to get another level out of the 25-year-old midfielder this season, which has put him on the Three Lions’ radar.

Having joined up with the squad, Garner’s comments about his Everton manager perhaps speak even more clearly about his former boss, Dyche.

James Garner hails David Moyes after England call-up
Garner only arrived on Tuesday at St. George’s Park, but he was almost immediately thrown into a press conference, where he waxed lyrical about the impact Moyes’ arrival has had.
“I think since he’s come in, not only me but the club has come leaps and bounds,” he said.
Is James Garner actually better as a full-back or in midfield? 🤔

“I think that’s only testament to him and his staff and I’m very thankful for the help he has given me.”
Moyes thought Garner was excellent against Chelsea at the weekend, and he has been across the 2025/26 campaign.
Garner’s comments, however, do show just how big of a difference working under Moyes has made compared to Garner’s time under Dyche.
Over recent months, Garner has admitted Dyche held him back, with the 54-year-old not providing him with the freedom to showcase his talent.
This season has been by far and away Garner’s best as a Premier League player, having finally made a name for himself on the national stage.
Time will tell whether he can translate his Everton performances into ones for his country, but he has certainly earned the opportunity.
Wayne Rooney has been so impressed by Garner this season, and expects him to make the World Cup squad.

Although the midfielder’s game is not all about goals and assists, there has been a clear improvement to that side of his game since the managerial change last January.
This is something that Garner has admitted he is still looking to improve on, but with Moyes in the dugout, he is being offered the licence to unlock that creative side of his game.
