The 26-year-old has penned a new five-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit, meaning he’ll remain with the club until 2031.

His previous deal was due to expire in 2028.

A 2023 signing from Southampton, the wide man has made 96 appearances for the club, scoring 10 times. He was also a major part of the Leverkusen side that claimed the club’s first ever league title during the 2023/24 season under Xabi Alonso.

“It’s a special relationship,” Tella said. “I feel incredibly comfortable at Bayer 04.

“The first few years here were marked by fantastic success. It’s great fun to now also be part of the development of a new, strong team.

"I am certain that we will achieve our goals again in the coming years.”

Tella spent the 2022/23 season on loan with the Clarets, scoring 17 times to help fire Vincent Kompany’s side to the Championship title.

Burnley were keen to bring the wide man back to Turf Moor on a permanent basis, but were unable to strike a deal with Southampton.

Burnley’s loss has been Leverkusen’s gain, with the German outfit keen to tie down their man to a longer deal.

“We are delighted to have retained such a likeable and top-class professional in our ranks for the long term”, managing director Simon Rolfes said.

"Nathan Tella is a key player on the pitch and an incredibly important figure in the locker room.

"His identification with Bayer 04 is palpable and evident every day. On the pitch, his pace and footballing quality are the outstanding attributes with which Nathan enriches our team.”
