Ecuador manager Sebastián Beccacece has revealed Newcastle United are chasing a talented youngster.
The Premier League side have been looking at young talents from across the globe and have made a few signings in recent years.
Last summer, Newcastle United signed Antonio Cordero, also known as Antoñito, on a free transfer. He is now on loan at Cádiz. In the same window, they signed Park Seung-soo from South Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings.
In October 2024, the Magpies agreed a deal with Dinamo Tbilisi for Vakhtang Salia. A few months prior to that, they signed Miodrag Pivaš from Sebria’s Jedinstvo Ub.
Australian Garang Kuol joined Newcastle United from Central Coast Mariners in 2023 and left them permanently to join Sparta Prague last August.
Eddie Howe’s side are also looking to sign youngsters from South America.
Wednesday’s edition of AS has published an interview with Ecuador manager Sebastián Beccacece, in which he discusses various topics. He took over the national team job in August 2024, from Félix Sánchez.
Newcastle United interest revealed
Sebastián Beccacece has explained making wholesale changes to his squad since becoming the head coach. This is when he talked about Newcastle United’s interest in an unnamed Ecuadorian youngster.
The manager says the player was born in 2009, without providing any details like his name, club etc.
“Our great achievement was looking beyond the immediate result. In 20 months, we changed about 65% of the squad. Today we have one of the youngest teams. in addition, many players are coming up behind us. We have worked a lot with youth players,” he said.

“We held three-day training camps and got to know more than 140 players. This allows us to have a broad base and understand the talent that exists in the country.”
“We have two 16-year-old twins who were bought by Arsenal, another who was bought by Chelsea, and there’s a player born in 2009 who is being pursued by Newcastle.”
There’s been no recent claims of Newcastle United interest in a young player from Ecuador. Sport Witness covered the Magpies’ earlier interest in Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez, but he was born in 2004.
Meanwhile, the manager explained Chelsea star Moisés Caicedo’s impact on youngsters.
“We use him a lot as an example for young players. He left Ecuador, had a tough time… And then there was the medical examination for his knee. Many players see him now and it seems like it was easy, but it wasn’t. Moi is a very humble player,” Beccacece explained.
