Man United have been linked to a Premier League midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.
Man United and Man City are amongst a group of Premier League clubs who are interested in Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, amid rumours the 25-year-old wants to leave St James’ Park.
Tonali prefers move back to Italy
It is understood that Tonali could command a fee of around £100m as Newcastle don’t want to sell the Italian international. However, if he requests to leave, their asking price could drop, or they could see a stalemate as they did with Alexander Isak last summer.
According to talkSPORT, both Man United and Man City remain interested in Tonali, but the former AC Milan midfielder would reportedly prefer a move back to Italy, even though he is happy at Newcastle as things stand.
This season, the 25-year-old has been a key player for Eddie Howe’s side again, as the midfielder has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing seven assists. However, as the Magpies are currently 12th in the Premier League table, his chances of securing European football next season with Newcastle are seriously fading, so a move could be more and more likely.
Man United and City are both battling for Anderson too
Seeing as both clubs are keen to add midfield talent in the summer, there’s no surprise that both Man United and Man City have been linked to the same players. Tonali is one of those names, but another name on the mind of both Manchester clubs is Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The England international has really impressed at Forest over the past two seasons and has shown himself to be one of the best all-round midfielders in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has made 31 Premier League appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Anderson, like Tonali, is expected to command a hefty transfer fee, as it is understood that Forest could demand at least £80m, with £100m mentioned as a potential fee during the January transfer window.
