Marcus Thuram
Marcus Thuram has had a frustrating season at Inter Milan, finding himself overshadowed by Francesco Pio Esposito. Aston Villa and Newcastle United can now have a shot at signing the Frenchman.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered information about interest from the two clubs in the attacker.
It was believed that Aston Villa and Newcastle United have made initial contact for Thuram. The player has also been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia but he is quite keen on a move to the Premier League.
The Nerazzurri could now definitely cut ties with the attacker, as Corriere dello Sport look at his situation in depth.
Thuram available for less than release clause
The newspaper ponder what is actually wrong with Marcus Thuram this season. The attacker’s attitude is the same as it was and his performances in training haven’t dipped either. However, he seems like a shadow of his former self when playing and that is why Inter are likely to review his future soon.
At the same time, there is confidence that Thuram has quite a few admirers in the Premier League. Newcastle United and Aston Villa interest gets a mention. Interest from both clubs was initially reported in the Italian media some weeks ago.
That is one way of potentially attempting to find a market for the struggling striker. Thuram should be available for €70m in the summer, even if his current contract has a release clause worth €85m.
Due to their desperation to get rid of an underperforming talent, Inter are prepared to sell Thuram for a discount. One big reason for that is Pio Esposito himself, as the Italian is expected to play even more next season. This will directly impact Thuram and they want to cash in when the time is right.
Inter trying their best to sell player
It is important to remember that Marcus Thuram joined Inter on a free transfer. So whatever they earn from his sale will go down as a capital gain on their books.
Besides, they were knocked out of the Champions League early in the competition and this has made a dent in their finances. They can now do with a major sale and Thuram would be the likeliest candidate to depart. Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni are much more synonymous with the club and the Frenchman has had a troubled campaign.

Stylistically, the former Borussia Monchengladbach player thrives on running into channels in attack. That is a very Premier League-like trait to have, which should appeal to clubs like Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Both Unai Emery and Eddie Howe like strikers who drift wide or drop deep. Thuram fits the bill quite well and is currently only 28, which is pretty much his prime.
Inter may not find a better opportunity to sell him and English clubs should now take advantage. Even though €70m is presented as a discount, it’s likely there would be a further reduction on that.
