'Going to do something I regret' - Ange Postecoglou's Nottingham Forest pain as ex Celtic boss…

The former Celtic manager has since been gaffer at Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

Ange Postecoglou has revealed the brutal nature of his sacking by Nottingham Forest - as the former Celtic and Tottenham manager opened up on what comes next for him.

The Parkhead favourite won five domestic trophies out of a possible six in Glasgow before joining Tottenham, where he won the Europa League. A shock sacking by Spurs guided him to Nottingham Forest but he lasted less than a couple of months as he was binned after being unable to spark them into form after a poor start to the season.

Now looking to what comes next, Postecoglou has hinted his next job will be in Europe, as he feels his full potential in management has not yet been realised. He has also learned brutal lessons at Forest with how that spell ended.

What happened to Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest?

He told SEN 1116: “I haven't told the story, but it was brutal, mate. I mean, I literally got sacked straight after the game. You know what an after game's like in any sport, you know, whether it's AFL or football. I'm in the coach's room. I knew it was coming so again, it was one of those where, you know, could come any day now.

“They literally sacked me straight after the game. I hadn't done the press yet but the press already know. I'm walking out into the corridor. I was going to... I just wanted to leave because I was going to do something I regret. I hadn't spoken to the assistant coaches who I knew also were probably going to be, well, I knew they were going to be sacked. So I needed to say something to them.

“I'm doing this while walking through throes of press and people who are just all looking at me and then I just wanted to get out of there. So security guards, to be fair, really good guys, said to me, I know you want to get out of here. EPL games, all the roads are blocked. Then after half an hour they said the roads have opened but there's obviously traffic out there.

Where will Ange Postecoglou go next?

“They did their best to try and get me through but I got stuck at one set of traffic lights for at least, I reckon, 15 minutes. I've got Chelsea supporters giving it to me and Forest supporters weren't much kinder. I'm sitting in the car, lame duck, right? In between, I've got little kids coming up asking for a selfie. So what do you do? I mean, I don't want to disappoint. So I paid for my penance. Whatever mistake I made, I paid a pretty heavy price for it.

“I haven’t even scratched the surface of what I want to do over here yet, in terms of the impact I want to make, with the football I want to play. I have this thing that it will be the best one I have done yet because the recent experiences, maybe I needed them. You can’t always be flying and successful., sometimes you need a couple of whacks.”
